Do you have gluten free company coming and want to make a gf dessert, but don’t want to invest in the expensive flours and other ingredients? Or do you already cook gluten free but just want something quick and easy to throw together? The Betty Crocker gluten free Devil’s Food cake mix might be your answer. We had a dinner party for nine the other evening and wanted to focus on putting the meal together rather than on the dessert. We whipped one of these up and served it iced with gf maple walnut ice cream and alongside homemade Almond Roca, and homemeade Ferrero Roche (recipe coming soon). Our guests, all of varying ages (8 to 80) and NOT gluten free, said they couldn’t tell that it was a mix, let alone that it was gluten free.
The mix takes 1/2 cup butter, 1 cup water, and three eggs. You then beat for 2 to 3 minutes, pour into a greased pan and pop in the oven. Can’t get any easier. If you can’t have butter, find a no-butter recipe here.

And if you want to jazz it up a bit, you could always do something like this Snickers Cake from Katy Cooks On. Looks fantastic!
We should also note that we have tried the Betty Crocker Gluten Free Yellow Cake mix and found that without the heavy chocolate, you could really taste the rice flour. the cake also seemed heavy for a white cake.

I wondered how the mix would be – great recipe!
It’s is really nice – and quick!
The mixes have certainly improved. The one I liked the most was Stonewall Kitchen vanilla cupcakes…vanilla being my favorite flavor.
Ooooh. Thanks for the tip. I love vanilla but haven’t been able to find a good one.
I wanted to thank you for being a friend to Honesty Time and I have nominated you for a blog award! http://honestytime.wordpress.com/2013/12/02/christmas-traditions-and-a-blog-award/
Wow! Thanks for the nomination for the Dragon’s Loyalty Award! This is the first time I’ve heard of that particular award but being nominated has made my day 🙂
Thanks for the brilliant idea. I’m all for cutting a few corners! Can’t wait for that Ferrero rocher recipe – just in time for Christmas, perhaps?
Ferrero Rocher coming right up! Scheduled for tomorrow.
